Deciding what to backup

In most offices there are two types of backups:

  • Data Only - This type of backup only saves data (e.g., files or databases). Usually these backups retain file changes going back months or years.
  • Full Image - This type of backup saves a full copy of an entire server or computer. It creates a byte for byte image of the entire server for easy recovery if there is a catastrophic crash.

Sometimes you only need to backup data. Sometimes you need every byte. You always need your backups in multiple locations.

So, first you need to decide what it is you need to backup. It usually helps to figure out how quickly you need to be back up and running. We work with you to help you decide what is primary and what is important for archiving.
